Taking Some Time to Reflect on Your Own Mental Health

Taking time to reflect on your mental health is so important and is something we often forget to do. We get caught up in the whirlwind of life, with responsibilities and commitments, and we don’t realise that we may need to take some time out for ourselves and make ourselves a priority. Taking some time to reflect on our mental health is a must and should be done often.

How to Reflect on Your Mental Health

  • Journal your thoughts – Take some time out of your day or evening and really think and reflect on how you are feeling, write about your emotions and any challenges you have faced lately and how this how made you feel. Also, reflect on the positives and your wins, and write down how this has made you feel. Track how your mood has been lately on a scale of 1-10. If on the lower side, think about things that could be causing this and what you could do to change this. If on the higher side, embrace all the positives in your life and appreciate all of these fully.
  • Pause and breathe – Set aside five minutes to practice some breathing exercises, which can help to understand how you are feeling and if your body is feeling tense. Doing these breathing exercises can help you feel calmer and more relaxed and release any tension you weren’t aware you were feeling.
  • Talk to someone – Sometimes talking about your feelings and saying these out loud to somebody can help you see how you truly are feeling and help you notice any feelings you may have been pushing aside, this can help you reflect and also understand you may not be feeling yourself or you could be feeling amazing, whatever it is, talking to somebody can give you clarity you may be struggling to find on your own.
  • Ask yourself an honest question – That question being, how am I truly feeling? This is essentially you having a sit down, having a talk and being completely honest with yourself and reflecting on how you are doing mentally. This can help you understand how you are truly feeling and things you could do to move forward to help yourself. This can also be a moment to reflect on any wins you have and being proud and rewarding yourself for these.

I hope this blog post helps you in reflecting on your mental health, and you remind yourself to give yourself some time to reflect on how you are truly feeling, doing this by looking at any challenges and how you can move forward and also remember to celebrate any wins and be proud of yourself. Let’s use mental health awareness month to truly reflect on how we are feeling, check in on others and spread awareness.

Lots of love x
