Christmas can be a time for fun festivities, positivity, joy and spending time with loved ones, on the other hand, this period can be a stressful and lonely time and can be the most difficult time of year for some people.
This is something to be mindful of and also a reminder to take care of your own well-being and mental health during this time.
Tips for the Christmas period
- Accept who you are, some people enjoy the Christmas period and are excited and feel joyful during that time, however if you do not feel joyful or enjoy this time of the year, understand that this is okay, people are different and you don’t need to put pressure on yourself to feel a certain way, remember that it is okay to be who you are.
- Take a break, this time of year is the perfect time to take some time to unwind, if possible, take some time off work, spend time with loved ones or even alone and do the things you enjoy this is the perfect way to reset yourself ready for the new year.
- Be open with others, although Christmas is about sharing gifts, it can also lead to stress from financial worries that can affect your mental health, if possible speak with your loved ones about any struggles you are facing or there are also local support groups and events who offer support in this that can help you navigate any worries.
- Let yourself experience your feelings, even if you don’t match what is going on around you and feel the same way about celebrating Christmas, that is okay, let yourself feel those feelings and don’t try and push them away, you are more than entitled to feel the way you feel.
