Mental Health and Season Changes

For some people, summer leaving and the autumnal and winter vibes can be exciting time, here are a lot of people that actually prefer these seasons believe it or not(me included). However, the thought of summer leaving and the darker nights coming, this can leave people feeling sad, anxious, experience low mood and feeling worried. So here are some tips on how to uplift your mood throughout  Autumn and Winter.

5 Tips on How to Uplift Your Mood in The Colder Seasons

1. Soak Up the Light

Natural light is your best friend in winter. Open your curtains wide, take a walk during the sunniest part of the day, or even try a light therapy lamp if you’re really missing the sunshine. A little light goes a long way for your mood.

2. Move Your Body

Exercise = instant endorphins. You don’t need a full gym session — stretching, yoga, or a quick walk around your neighbourhood can give you that mental lift.

3. Stay Social (Even If You Don’t Feel Like It)

When it’s cold, we tend to hibernate. But connecting with friends or family — even through a quick call or coffee catch-up — can instantly brighten your day. Laughter and good conversation are underrated mood boosters.

4. Eat Mood-Friendly Foods

Comfort food is great but balance it with meals that support your energy and brain health. Omega-3s (salmon, walnuts), vitamin D-rich foods (eggs, mushrooms), and colourful veggies can really make a difference…also remember, you are allowed a treat!

5. Create Cosy Rituals

Turn the colder season into something to look forward to. Light a candle, make your favourite warm drink, read a book, or listen to music that makes you feel good. Having little rituals gives your brain positive cues to relax and recharge.

I hope this helps give you some ideas on how you can uplift your mood in these colder and darker seasons, these seasons can really be a time to reset yourself and can also bring you a lot of relaxation, which is always needed! Give these a go and see how you get on.
