I wanted to write a quick blog post about this as I feel like it needs to be talked about a little more, in a world where we constantly celebrate big achievements, we easily forget all the small wins, and these are still achievements. For example, say you are feeling extremely low or not feeling great at all, yet you still get up, make your bed, go to work get dressed, get your workout in, cook for yourself or your family and just simply get through the day the best possible way you can, that itself is an achievement and these small wins should be celebrated.
Little achievements count more than they seem, and here is how recognising them can help with your mental health:
- Boosts your mood – Each small win can feel like a sense of accomplishment, especially if you are feeling not so great, say, celebrating these small wins can help you feel more positive and give you a sense of encouragement.
- Encourages positive habits – Small wins overtime can lead to bigger success, for example as James Clear states – getting 1% better each day for one year, you’ll end up 37 times better by the time you’re done (I would definitely recommend his book, it’s called “Atomic Habits”. The point is by small achievements can lead to something bigger so make sure you celebrate them because you don’t know where they could lead.
- Builds Confidence – consistency in achieving small wins reinforces self-belief. Over time, these small victories compound, strengthening your confidence and reminding you that progress is possible—even on tough days.
- Reduce Overwhelm – big goals can feel daunting and sometimes overwhelming. Breaking tasks into smaller steps and celebrating each small win makes even the largest projects feel manageable, reducing anxiety and stress.
I hope this has helped you understand why celebrating small wins is just as important as celebrating the bigger achievements in life, if you are feeling low and not great, be proud of yourself for still getting your daily tasks completed and if not then be proud of yourself for recognising you are not feeling great and putting things in place to lift yourself back up.
Lots of love x
