How I Handle Bad Mental Health Days

Let’s be real, not every day is going to feel happy, productive and feel like you have all the motivation in the world, some days aren’t going to be great and you may feel extremely low, anxious and not your best self, but you know what… that is okay and it is completely normal, It is how you deal with these days and how you approach them that matters and can make all the difference.

Here’s how I cope when I am having a bad mental health day…

  • Let myself feel it all – this is important, if you try and push away how you are feeling, it will only come back stronger and take longer to pass, instead, sit with it and remind yourself this feeling will pass and you are just having a bad day, but that is okay because it won’t last forever.
  • Move your body – If you are a regular on the blog, you probably know by now this is always a top recommendation of mine when I’m feeling low, even if it is going for a walk, yoga, training in the gym, some form of cardio, anything to get yourself moving, instantly makes me feel better and I promise it will massively make a difference to your mood.
  • Journalling – I find journalling comforting and wholesome and it gives me the chance to write down how I am truly feeling and also things I am proud of and grateful for, by doing this, this gives me a chance to reflect on all the good in my life and also gives me a chance to write down my feelings, so I am not bottling them all up, it give me that little boost of happiness I need on my bad days.
  • Leaning on my comforts – This could be having a nice hot bath, lighting a candle, listening to a podcast, watching a vlog or a favourite comfort film, eating my favourite foods, having a cup of tea and having some time to myself.
  • Reaching out to a loved one – Sometimes I will text my family or close friends to have a chat on how I am feeling, this feels like a weight lifted of my shoulders when I reach out. If you can, reach out to family, close friends or a partner and let them know you are struggling, this can be a huge help and a little less pressure taken of you.
