5-Minute Mental Health Habits

Life can feel overwhelming sometimes, even in the smallest of moments. Sometimes, we don’t have the luxury of getting a quick therapy session or speaking to someone when we feel like this, so here are some quick habits that can help you feel less overwhelmed in these moments.

Box breathing exercise

This is a simple exercise I had learnt in therapy when I was struggling with anxiety, it is a simple technique to help calm your nervous system.

Simply, breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, breathe out for 4 seconds and hold for 4 seconds. Repeat this a few times until you feel a little calmer and relaxed. This is helpful in stressful moments or leading up to things you feel a little nervous about.

Journaling

Take 5 minutes out of your day to write down everything and anything you are feeling. Make this a non-judgmental zone and write down whatever is on your mind.

Stretch/move around

This is a great tool, especially if you sit at a desk all day, take 5 minutes to stand up, stretch, go for a little walk, shake it off and release some tension that you may be feeling.

Listen to something you enjoy

This could be music, a podcast, a vlog, etc, take some time out and enjoy listening to whatever it is that makes you feel happy, this just gives you that little boost of happiness that you may need in that moment.

This was just a short blog to give you some tips and how you can practice 5-minute mental health habits, so I hope these help, and if you use them, you can see the difference this makes.
